Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect in a first session?

You don’t need to prepare anything in advance. The first session is a chance to begin talking about whatever feels most important, and to get a sense of how it feels to work together. We go at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

Do I need to have a goal or know what I want to talk about?

Not at all. Therapy is collaborative, and your agenda is the only one in the room. We can begin with whatever feels most relevant, even if it’s unclear or difficult to put into words.

Where do sessions take place?

Sessions are available online and face-to-face in central Brighton. I work with adults aged 18 and over and do not offer couples therapy.

How long does therapy last?

Sessions are 50 minutes. Therapy may be short-term or long-term, depending on your needs and what feels right for you.

Do I need to speak, or can I use creative methods?

Talking is often central, but sometimes other ways of exploring can help make sense of thoughts and feelings. This might include writing, imagery, or simple exercises alongside talking. These are always optional, and there is no expectation to be creative.

How do I know if therapy is working?

Therapy isn’t about “fixing”, but over time you may notice changes in how you understand yourself, your reactions, and your experiences. This can show up in small but meaningful ways.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. Sessions are confidential. I am a fully insured individual member of the BACP and work within their Ethical Framework, which sets clear standards for professional practice and confidentiality.

What if I feel challenged in therapy?

Therapy can sometimes feel challenging. If this happens, we can look at it together in a way that feels safe and respectful, and explore what it brings up for you.
